Monroe piercings, Facial Piercings, and Tattoos. Good Idea at the Moment but What About the Future?

I'm taking a different turn today... I want to ask the question about piercings and tattoos? Are they a good thing to get? I also heard somewhere that you have to have the right face shape/angle/features to pull off the monroe, for example. How do you know if that's (or any piercing at that matter) a good look for you? You can't just spend the $40 to get the piercing, and then a day later decide it's not for you!! Do you really expect to go through that pain for absolutley NOTHING???? Zip??? Ziltch??? When I got my tongue pierced (which I do not regret at the moment), I couldn't imagine going through the healing process all over again. The piercing itself didn't hurt, but the healing process? What a pain in the ass! It's hard to inction at work when your tongue is swollen up to double its size, and I couldn't eat anything except for smoothies. (great for a quick 5 lb weight loss though!) The point I'm trying to make it, that I went through the pain, I'm keeping the piercing.

I think they look cute, don't get me wrong. But when you enter "coorperate america," it would be so difficult to get hired anywhere... take my future goals for example: what would the chances of a decent law firm hiring me if I have a metal bar going through my tongue?? Would anybody in the court room even take me seriously, since such a piercing is considered "unprofessional?" The beauty of piercings is that they're not permanent. When the time comes where you become too old for it, or bored of it, or you just can't have it anymore for your job (I guess that follows under being too old for the piercing), you have the option to take it out- minimal to zero scaring. And what's great about my tongue piercing, it will close up within a day. Piercings are not a bad thing to get, if they are done in moderation. Too many at a time tend to look... ahem, "trashy..." and all that metal tends to take away from the beauty that is your face! PLEASE, for my (and everyone else's) eyes sake, do the whole piercing thing in moderation, or I'll start to want to hang my clothes from your face. I'm sure the desired look is not to look like a coat hanger, right? So preserve your beauty, and stick to a few. And once you stick to a few, when the time comes that you need to take the piercing out, you wont have scarring that looks like you suffered from bad acne as a teenager. Just a little pointer. :)

But what about this tattoo craze? They are so permanent, which is one reason that scares the living shit out of me to get one. What if I get something small, like a star on the back of my neck, and 20 years down the line, I think it's the stupidest thing I've ever gotten?? I can't get rid of it- if I do a tatoo removal, it'll leave me with a star shaped scar! I just worry about the rebellious teenager that goes and gets his/her first tattoo on their 18th birthday, and it's something like a pot leaf. Imagine explaining that one to family members! "Oh yeah Grandma, I'm a huge stoner. I got a pot leaf tatooed on my arm, and you can blame your mother for her bad parenting for letting me get this." And when that 18 year old straightens out and stops doing drugs, he or she will always have that reminder of his/her darker years of getting high-- but hey, with all those brain cells that got fried, something's gotta joggle his memory! That pot leaf tattoo may be a reminder of who he/she used to be and might be a motivation to stay sober, who knows. Still, it may be hard to get hired at a professional job.... companies tend to not want to hire someone who's a complete pot head- and that lovely pot leaf tattoo only provides evidence of the fact that that person is.

I'm going to start to ramble on about cooperate america here, again. If someone got a "sleeve" in their younger years, what would happen if they want to get a professional job as soon as they graduate college??? I'm sure something like this is easy to hide- if you want to wear long sleeves every day! Well, I'm not bashing tattoos. I just think that people need to think long and hard before inking up their body. There are too many people who are getting tattoos, and then later telling me that they regret their decision. And they all say the same thing, "If you are planning on getting a tattoo, 1. Don't get it if it's something you don't really want, 2. make sure it's somewhere that doesn't show (make it easy to hide) and 3. Think long and hard about what you're going to get, because it will be with you forever." I think that advice is excellent. Whatever you do with your body, go ahead and do it- don't let what I'm saying affect your decision. All I wanna say is, think before you get it. Think about the future, and if a tattoo or piercing fits that lifestyle you want. You make the call.
